Children’s traditional dance group „Dzirnaviņas”
Oplev Lettisk børnedans, når hele 18 dansere i alderen 3-12 år, optræder i centret.
The children’s traditional dance group „Dzirnaviņas” was established in 2012 by its first artistic director Solveiga Slaidiņa. At the moment the dance group is led by a dance teacher Digna Rubņikoviča, who is teaching the basics of traditional Latvian dances to children in Dublin area. At the moment there are 18 children aged 3 to 12 dancing in the group „Dzirnaviņās”. Practices take place on Sunday mornings and last hour and a half. Children are taught not only the traditional dance steps, that is the foundation to Latvian traditional dances, but also well known and newly created dances. On average „Dzirnaviņas” dancers have 7-8 concerts in the schoolyear season. In this (2017./2018.) schoolyear season „Dzirnaviņas” have performed in Latvian Independence day event in Dublin city hall, Dublin international charity market organized by the diplomatic body, children and youth talent show „Protu? Protu!”, event „Cake for Latvian Centenary”, Leinster Latvian Association anniversary event un by the end of the season the dance group have other events in mind. „Dzirnaviņas” older children together with adult danc group „Karbunkulis” are learning the repertuar dance „Kristī mazus, kristī lielus” for the Latvian Centenary Song and Dance festival. Every year there are more and more young dance enthusiasts joining the dance group „Dzirnaviņās”.
